Rosanna Castrini (Winner in „The Beauty of Plants”) about her photo:
„A corner of sublime ‚prairie’ in my garden, inspired by contemporary horticultural theories and the practice of ‚prairie-planting’ gardens. At the beginning of 2013 I decided to redmake a narrow flowerbed next to the house, sowing the plants required. I like informal, flowing effects and I chose fast-growing plants: Ammi majus, Hordeum jubatum, and Echinacea purpurea ‚Magnus’. Then I documented with photography the evolution of this flowerbed. I was inspired by the soft flow of energy offered by Hordeum jubatum.”
Judge about photo:
„We all love single plant portraits – but it is much more difficult to make a successful picture of many plants together in association. To me, this picture is as close to perfection as you can get.
I love the contrasting shapes and textures of the three types of flower. All the plants are in perfect condition. The photographer has recognised a very skilful piece of planting and has made a straightforward rendering of it, in lovely light and with no tricks.”
From November 19, 2013 to April 6, 2014, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain will present América Latina 1960-2013, coproduced with the Museo Amparo in Puebla (Mexico). The exhibition will offer a new perspective on Latin American photography from 1960 to today, focusing on the relationship between text and the photographic image.
Bringing together more than seventy artists from eleven different countries, it reveals the great diversity of photographic practices by presenting the work of documentary photographers as well as that of contemporary artists who appropriate the medium in different ways.
This unique presentation will provide the visitor with the opportunity to delve into the history of the region and to rediscover the works of major artists rarely exhibited in Europe.
